Change
Welcome Spring!
Snow one day, sunshine the next. Change is in the air! The transition from winter to spring is a gentle reminder to open up to the inevitable shifts that occur in our own lives. And, yet, many of us meet change with resistance. We defend our positions and our feelings, we cling to what we think is unchangeable in fear that our security is at stake. And, we can easily criticize and find fault, becoming a source of pessimism and negativity. However, as we all know, change is good and is the only climate in which growth can occur.
When we embrace change, we are more open to being filled with wonder and surprise. Yoga makes us more flexible in body and mind helping us to embody change. Practice surrendering in a posture that gives you the most discomfort. Instead of justifying what you can’t do, make a point to recognize the positive changes you’ve made in the poses you do best. Revisit your views on postures you resist, and allow yourself to feel vulnerable, even for a few seconds. Watch, how over time the anxiety washes away, revealing new thoughts and ideas that will strengthen you in all areas of your life.
It is normal to close off change. We all do this. However, don’t forget the very seed that brought you to the room in the first place — a desire for transformation and finally feeling ready. Connect to that wise intention each time you practice and trust that change will bring out your best.
And, enjoy April showers!
Michele
