Go Confidently

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Namaste,

June teases us with the beginnings of summer-the high time when blossoms are at their peak, the sun shines with intensity, and the days are longer. The heightened colors and light lures us to indulge in the season’s bountiful energy.

For some of us, a school year ends and we are ready to live off the interest of our hard work. It isn’t a time to second-guess ourselves, after all the studies are complete. Instead, it’s a time to feel very proud of what we have accomplished.

Is it a coincidence that Father’s day is celebrated in June? The customary father never doubts our abilities and spends no time on excuses. No matter the conditions, that strong, confident male part in us acknowledges our capabilities and keeps us ambitiously moving forward. Questioning ourselves is not an option. “Stay determined, have no doubts and go,” as I can hear my father say even now.

While the female/yin side of us continues to encourage with a loving heart, that male/yang side drives us to meet our potential, deaf to the ups and downs of the human condition. This month, and in this season, show your male side with pride! Stamp your practice with an, “of course I can do this” righteousness. Show up in your poses ignoring distractions. Challenge yourself to grow right there on your mat and develop more of who you are from a sense of knowing without a hint of hesitation.

“Great souls know nothing of failure. At every turn, they see the opportunity to learn. Every man is free to rise as far as he’s able or willing, but it’s only the degree to which he thinks that determines the degree to which he’ll rise.” – Ayn Rand
